Liuotintojen

Liuotintojen is a Finnish collective noun referring to the group or domain of individuals known as liuotintö, a historical title used in Finland during the medieval and early modern periods. The term originates from the Finnish word liuotintuoja, which itself derives from the Old Norse “hleðingr” meaning a caretaker or steward. In ancient Finnish communities, liuotintö were appointed by the church or local municipal authorities to perform administrative tasks such as collecting tithes, maintaining church property, and overseeing the conduct of parishioners. The plural form liuotintojen indicates the association of these officials within a particular diocese or municipality, and it was often used in legal and ecclesiastical documents to refer to the collective responsibilities or jurisdiction of the liuotintö group.
