Lisämarginaaliprosentti, often abbreviated as LMP, is a statistical measure used in the context of elections and surveys to determine the margin of victory or the confidence interval for a particular candidate or option. It represents the percentage of votes or responses that would need to be redistributed from the losing candidate or option to the winning candidate or option to make them tied.

In the context of elections, LMP is calculated as the difference between the vote percentages of the two leading candidates, divided by two. For example, if Candidate A receives 55% of the votes and Candidate B receives 45%, the LMP would be (55% - 45%) / 2 = 5%.

In surveys, LMP is used to determine the confidence interval for a particular opinion or preference. It represents the range within which the true percentage of the population holding a particular opinion lies with a certain level of confidence. For example, if a survey finds that 60% of respondents support a policy, with an LMP of 5%, the true percentage of support would lie between 55% and 65% with 95% confidence.

LMP is a useful tool for understanding the margin of error in elections and surveys, but it should be interpreted with caution. It does not provide information about the absolute number of votes or responses, only the relative difference between candidates or options.
