Lipolyttisyys, also known as lipolysis, is a biochemical process that involves the breakdown of triglycerides, the primary form of fat stored in the body, into glycerol and fatty acids. This process is primarily carried out by the enzyme lipase, which is found in various tissues, including adipose tissue, the liver, and the pancreas. Lipolysis is a crucial metabolic pathway that provides energy to the body, particularly during periods of fasting or low carbohydrate intake.

The process of lipolysis begins with the activation of hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) by hormones such as adrenaline and glucagon.
