Linssitoimenpiteet

Linssitoimenpiteet, also called lens interventions, are surgical procedures performed on the crystalline lens of the eye to treat various conditions such as cataract, refractive errors, or lens-related complications. The primary goal of these procedures is to remove or replace the lens to restore visual acuity and improve quality of life for patients who cannot achieve sufficient vision with glasses or contact lenses.

There are several types of linssitoimenpiteet, each tailored to a specific clinical need. Cataract surgery, the most common, involves removal of the cloudy natural lens and replacement with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL). Refractive lens exchange (RLE) purposely removes the intact lens to correct severe myopia, hyperopia, or astigmatism, and is considered when laser vision correction is unsuitable. Potential risks are similar to other eye surgeries and may include infection, bleeding, retinal detachment, or changes in intraocular pressure.
