Lineaaralas

Lineaaralas is a theoretical construct used in discussions of linear operators and abstract algebra. It describes a framework for studying the joint action of multiple linear transformations on a vector space, emphasizing how these operators interact when they commute and can be analyzed together.

Definition. A lineaarala on a finite-dimensional vector space V over a field F consists of a finite set {A1, ..., Ak} of linear endomorphisms of V that pairwise commute (AiAj = AjAi for all i, j) and are simultaneously diagonalizable over an algebraic closure of F. Equivalently, V decomposes as a direct sum of common eigenspaces V = ⊕λ Vλ, where each Vλ is the subspace on which every Ai has the eigenvalue λi, forming the tuple λ = (λ1, ..., λk).

Properties. The algebra generated by the Ai is a finite-dimensional commutative subalgebra of End(V). If each Ai is a projection (Ai^2 = Ai), the lineaarala yields a decomposition of V into joint eigenspaces with eigenvalues 0 or 1. The number and multiplicities of joint eigenvalues provide invariants that describe the structure of the lineaarala and the space it acts upon.

Examples. In V = F^n, choosing diagonal matrices Ai that are simultaneously diagonalizable yields a straightforward lineaarala: the common eigenbasis yields a direct sum decomposition into subspaces on which all Ai act by fixed scalars.
