Lijmcomponent refers to any individual substance or material that is part of a larger adhesive formulation. Adhesives are typically complex mixtures designed to bond two surfaces together, and each component plays a specific role in achieving this function. The primary active ingredient in most adhesives is the polymer or resin, which forms the backbone of the bond by encapsulating and adhering to the surfaces. This is often a thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer.

In addition to the main binder, adhesives can contain various additives. Fillers are often added to increase the bulk of the adhesive, reduce cost, improve mechanical properties like strength or stiffness, and sometimes to control shrinkage during curing. They initiate or accelerate the chemical reaction that hardens the adhesive and creates a strong, permanent bond. Tackifiers are substances that enhance the immediate stickiness of an adhesive, known as tack, which is important for initial assembly and handling. Other common components include plasticizers to increase flexibility, stabilizers to prevent degradation, and pigments for color.
