Liitiumiühendid are chemical compounds containing the element lithium. Lithium is an alkali metal with the atomic number 3 and symbol Li. It is the lightest metal and has a variety of applications due to its unique chemical properties.

The most well-known lithium compound is lithium carbonate (Li₂CO₃), widely used in the treatment of bipolar disorder. It acts as a mood stabilizer, helping to reduce the severity and frequency of manic episodes. Another significant application of lithium compounds is in rechargeable batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries. These batteries are essential for powering portable electronic devices like smartphones and laptops, as well as electric vehicles. Lithium compounds like lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO₂) and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) are key cathode materials in these batteries.

Other important lithium compounds include lithium hydroxide (LiOH), used in lubricating greases and as a carbon dioxide absorber in spacecraft and submarines. Lithium chloride (LiCl) is hygroscopic and can be used as a desiccant. Lithium bromide (LiBr) has applications in air conditioning systems. The extraction and processing of lithium, often from brines or hard rock minerals, are crucial for meeting the growing global demand for these compounds. Environmental considerations related to lithium extraction are an ongoing area of research and discussion.
