Liikval

Liikval is a Finnish thrash metal band formed in 1988 in Helsinki. The band's original lineup consisted of Antti Remes on vocals and guitar, Tomi Tuisku on vocals and guitar, and Toni Salmi on drums. Liikval is considered one of the pioneering bands in the Finnish thrash metal scene, alongside bands such as Kylähullut and L.d.s.

Liikval released their debut album, "Modern Sacred Music," in 1990, which was well-received by critics and fans. The album's lyrics focused on themes of social critique and anti-establishment sentiments, reflecting the turmoil of the late 1980s. The band's sound was characterized by fast-paced guitar work, aggressive drumming, and energetic vocals.

Over the years, Liikval underwent several lineup changes, with Antti Remes being the primary constant member. Despite their underground success, Liikval never achieved mainstream recognition. The band's discography consists of several demos and EPs, as well as the aforementioned album. Their music has exerted a significant influence on the Finnish metal scene, with many notable bands citing Liikval as an inspiration.

Liikval's influence can be seen in the subsequent thrash metal and death metal movements in Finland, with bands such as Sentenced and Shape of Despair drawing from their sound. While Liikval is no longer an active band, their legacy continues to be felt in the Finnish metal community, solidifying their position as a pioneering force in the country's thrash metal history.
