Liikumispindu
Liikumispindu is a term used in Estonian discussions of dynamics to denote the factor that initiates and sustains motion in a system. Broadly, it refers to the driving force or impetus behind movement, including propulsion, torques, or muscular effort. In biomechanics, liikumispindu may describe how muscles generate forward motion in a limb, while in mechanical engineering it can denote the net energy input from a motor that overcomes loads and friction. The concept emphasizes the source of motion rather than the motion itself, and it is often analyzed alongside opposing forces such as resistance, drag, gravity, and friction to determine net motion and acceleration.
Etymology and usage: the term is a compound built from liikumine (movement) and pindu, a productive Estonian
Relation to related concepts: liikumispindu is related to, but distinct from, more formal terms such as driving
