Lighteating

Lighteating refers to a pseudoscientific belief that humans can subsist solely on light, similar to plants through photosynthesis. Adherents of lighteating, often called "light-eaters" or "breatharians," claim to derive all their necessary sustenance from sunlight or other forms of light, eschewing the need for conventional food and water. This practice is often associated with spiritual or esoteric philosophies, positing that light contains a vital energy that can nourish the body and spirit.

The concept of lighteating is not supported by any scientific evidence. Biological organisms, including humans, require a complex array of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals obtained through metabolic processes that break down consumed organic matter. Photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert light into energy, is a biochemical mechanism unique to plants and certain microorganisms and is not replicable in humans. Medical and scientific communities universally consider lighteating to be dangerous, as it can lead to severe malnutrition, dehydration, and potentially fatal health complications. Claims of successful lighteating are typically met with skepticism, and instances where individuals have reportedly practiced it often involve secret consumption of food or water, or have resulted in severe harm.
