Liekkiruiskutusta, also known as flame spraying or thermal spraying with fuel gas, is a surface coating process. In this method, a combustible gas, typically acetylene or propane, is mixed with oxygen and ignited to create a flame. A coating material, usually in powder or wire form, is fed into this flame. The high temperature of the flame melts the coating material.

The molten material is then atomized by a stream of compressed air, which also propels the fine droplets towards the substrate surface. Upon impact, the droplets flatten and solidify, forming a lamellar or layered coating. This process allows for the application of a wide range of materials, including metals, ceramics, and cermets, onto various substrates.

Liekkiruiskutusta is used to impart specific properties to surfaces, such as wear resistance, corrosion protection, or electrical insulation. It is a relatively simple and cost-effective thermal spray technique, often employed for repair and rebuilding worn parts, as well as for applying functional coatings. The process's versatility makes it suitable for applications in industries like automotive, aerospace, and manufacturing. Control over gas flow rates, oxygen supply, and the distance between the spray gun and the workpiece are crucial for achieving desired coating characteristics.
