A supplier's declaration is a statement made by a seller (the supplier) to a buyer, confirming the origin of the goods being supplied. This declaration is crucial for determining whether goods are eligible for preferential tariff treatment under free trade agreements or if they are subject to specific trade regulations or quotas.

There are two main types of Lieferantenerklärungen: unilateral and long-term. A unilateral supplier's declaration is issued for a specific consignment of goods. A long-term supplier's declaration, on the other hand, covers a period of time, typically up to one year, and applies to all goods of the same type supplied during that period. This simplifies the process for both the supplier and the buyer when there are regular shipments of goods from the same origin.

The content of a Lieferantenerklärung typically includes details about the supplier and the buyer, a description of the goods, and a clear statement of their origin, often specifying the country where the goods were manufactured or produced. The declaration may also include information about whether the goods meet the rules of origin criteria for a specific trade agreement.
