Leyton

Leyton is a district of east London, England, in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. It lies about six miles northeast of central London and is contiguous with Leytonstone to the west and Wanstead to the north, near Stratford and the Olympic Park. Historically part of Essex, Leyton was incorporated into Greater London in 1965 under the London Government Act 1963. The area developed as a residential suburb in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, spurred by railway expansion and urban growth.

Today Leyton is primarily residential with a busy commercial core along Leyton High Road, offering shops, markets, and services for local residents. The district is served by Leyton Underground station on the Central line, with additional rail access at Leyton Midland Road on the Gospel Oak to Barking line. Several bus routes connect Leyton to neighbouring boroughs, Stratford, and central London.

Leyton Orient Football Club, founded in 1881, is based in the area and plays at Brisbane Road, officially the Breyer Group Stadium. The club has a long-standing association with the community and East London football.

In local governance terms, Leyton falls within the London Borough of Waltham Forest and is part of the Leyton and Wanstead parliamentary constituency.
