Lepakkoläppäventtiili, also known as a flap valve or clapper valve, is a type of check valve used in fluid systems. Its primary function is to allow flow in one direction while preventing backflow. The valve consists of a hinged flap or disc that swings open when fluid pressure from the upstream side is sufficient. When the flow stops or reverses, the pressure from the downstream side, or gravity, causes the flap to close against a seat, thereby sealing the passage and blocking reverse flow.

These valves are commonly found in applications where a simple and reliable method of preventing backflow is required. Examples include sewage systems, drainage pipes, and pump discharge lines. The design is relatively simple, making them cost-effective and easy to maintain. The flap can be made from various materials, such as rubber, metal, or plastic, depending on the fluid being handled and the operating conditions. The hinge mechanism is also crucial to the valve's operation, ensuring smooth opening and closing.
