Leivänpaahtimo
Leivänpaahtimo is the Finnish word for a toaster. It is a small kitchen appliance designed to toast slices of bread. Typically, a leivänpaahtimo has slots on the top where the bread is inserted. Heating elements, usually made of nichrome wire, are situated within these slots. When the appliance is switched on, electricity flows through these elements, causing them to heat up and radiate heat onto the bread. This heat causes the Maillard reaction and caramelization on the surface of the bread, resulting in its characteristic browned and crispy texture.
Modern leivänpaahtimot often feature adjustable browning controls, allowing users to select their desired level of toastiness.
