Leinenweberei

Leinenweberei refers to the process of weaving linen fabric. Linen is a textile made from the fibers of the flax plant, Linum usitatissimum. The process begins with harvesting the flax, followed by retting, which separates the fibers from the woody core of the stem. These fibers are then scutched and hackled to remove impurities and align them, preparing them for spinning into yarn.

Once the linen yarn is created, it is then woven into fabric on a loom. This weaving process involves interlacing warp threads (running lengthwise) with weft threads (running widthwise). The density and pattern of this interlacing determine the final texture and appearance of the linen fabric. Common weave structures include plain weave, twill, and satin.
