Leanaðferðir

Leanaðferðir, or lean methodologies, are a set of principles and practices focused on maximizing customer value while minimizing waste. Originating from the Toyota Production System, lean thinking emphasizes continuous improvement and respect for people. The core idea is to identify and eliminate any activity that does not add value from the customer's perspective. This waste can manifest in various forms, often categorized as TIMWOOD: Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Over-processing, and Defects.

Applying lean methodologies involves a systematic approach to process improvement. Key tools and techniques include value stream mapping, which visually represents the flow of material and information, and the "5 Whys" method for root cause analysis. Kaizen, a philosophy of continuous improvement involving all employees, is central to sustained change. Kanban systems are often used to manage workflow and signal when more work can be started, preventing overproduction and bottlenecks.
