René-Théophile-Hyacinthe Laënnec, commonly spelled Laënnec, was a French physician who played a pivotal role in the development of modern clinical examination. Born in 1781 in Quimperlé, Brittany, he pursued medical studies in Paris and conducted much of his work there.
