Layersliteral

Layersliteral is a conceptual data representation used in information encoding and templating. It encodes values as nested literal wrappers to preserve their exact textual form across processing steps that might alter escaping or interpretation.

In a layersliteral representation, a value is wrapped by one or more literal layers. Each layer indicates that the contained content should be treated as a literal by downstream processors, and the original value is recovered by peeling away the layers in reverse order. For example, a value may be represented as L(L("Hello, world!")), with L marking a literal wrapper. The exact syntax is not standardized; different implementations may use varying tokens or brackets, but the guiding principle is layered literal preservation.

Origin and status: The term appears in theoretical discussions of data serialization and templating as a strategy for fidelity, not a formal standard with an official specification.

Applications and considerations: Applications include configuration management, data interchange between heterogeneous systems, and template engines that frequently re-escape content.
