Each layer is designed to perform a specific set of tasks and interacts with the layers directly above and below it. This layered architecture promotes modularity, separation of concerns, and maintainability.

Typically, a layered architecture includes presentation (or user interface) layers, business logic layers, and data access layers. The presentation layer handles user interactions and displays information. The business logic layer contains the core application logic and business rules. The data access layer manages communication with the data storage, such as databases.

The primary benefit of layercommonly is that changes made within one layer have minimal impact on other layers, provided the interfaces between layers remain consistent. This simplifies development, testing, and debugging. It also allows different teams to work on different layers concurrently. However, excessive layering can sometimes lead to performance overhead due to increased communication between layers, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as "layeritis."
