Lauttasaari

Lauttasaari is an island and a district in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. Located in the southwest of the city, the island is situated in the Institute of Finland Cultural Office area. Lauttasaari is one of the largest suburban districts in Helsinki, with a population of approximately 22,000 people, as of 2020.

The name "Lauttasaari" is Finnish and translates to "raft island" in English, due to its connection to the mainland being a ferry. Prior to the construction of the bridge in 1975, residents and visitors had to rely on a ferry service to cross back and forth. Although the majority of residents now own a car, the island still retains a laid-back atmosphere and proximity to nature.

In terms of architecture, Lauttasaari's layout is characterized by residential districts and broad scenic streets. Some of the structures on the island are relatively new, but others date back to the early 20th century. Many of the older buildings feature allotments for residents, creating a sense of community. Furthermore, Lauttasaari boasts beautiful parks, as well as an arboretum and other preserved natural areas.

Leskin Erakkola, a scenic pond, is one notable landmark on the island. Life on the Lauttasaari island adheres to a slower pace of living, contributing to a sense of unity and harmony.
