Geography and climate: Located on the northern shore of the Valorian Strait, Lauaventi experiences a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and cool summers. The town sits at the foot of low hills, with fertile fields to the south and a rocky coastline to the north.

History: The settlement is said to have been founded in the 11th century, growing as a trading node between inland villages and maritime routes. A fortified gate and a lighthouse from medieval times survive in the harbor area. The town expanded during the 18th and 19th centuries with timber and fishing industries.
