Lastpfaden

Lastpfaden is a term used in German-language engineering literature to describe the network of pathways through which loads, forces, or stresses are transmitted within a system. The concept emphasizes the routes that carry the final load from application points to supports or foundations, and it is used to analyze how a structure responds under load.

The term is formed from Last (load) and Pfaden (paths). In structural engineering, Lastpfaden refer to the actual channels of force flow, including primary and secondary members, connections, and fixtures. The concept is closely related to, and sometimes used interchangeably with, load path analysis or load transfer pathways; in English texts, the term is seldom used, and "load paths" is more common.

In buildings, bridges, and mechanical assemblies, identifying Lastpfaden helps engineers assess redundancy, determine critical elements, and guide design for safety and efficiency.
