Laserkommunikation

Laserkommunikation, also known as free-space optical communication, is a method of transmitting data wirelessly using beams of light. Instead of using radio waves or physical cables, laser communication systems employ lasers to send and receive information through the atmosphere or vacuum of space. This technology offers several advantages over traditional methods, including high bandwidth and the potential for very secure data transmission due to the narrow beam of light, which is difficult to intercept without detection.

The fundamental principle involves modulating a laser beam to encode data, such as digital information, and then directing this beam to a receiver. The receiver, typically equipped with a photodetector, decodes the light signals back into data. Applications for laser communication are diverse, ranging from terrestrial point-to-point links, especially in situations where laying cables is impractical or expensive, to inter-satellite communication and even communication with unmanned aerial vehicles. Challenges include atmospheric conditions like fog, rain, and turbulence, which can disrupt or attenuate the laser beam, requiring sophisticated tracking and correction systems. Despite these challenges, laser communication is a rapidly developing field with the potential to significantly enhance wireless data transfer capabilities.
