Largediaphragm is a term used to describe a large or unusually sized diaphragm, typically in the context of a condenser microphone. The diaphragm is the thin, sensitive membrane within a microphone that vibrates in response to sound waves, converting acoustic energy into electrical signals. Microphones are often categorized by the size of their diaphragms, with "large-diaphragm" microphones generally referring to those with diaphragms around one inch or larger in diameter.

Large-diaphragm condenser microphones are prized for their ability to capture a wide frequency range and a high degree of detail. They tend to have a warmer, richer sound compared to small-diaphragm microphones, often exhibiting a more pronounced proximity effect, which is an increase in low-frequency response when the sound source is very close to the microphone. This characteristic makes them popular for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, and instruments with a broad dynamic range. The larger surface area of the diaphragm allows for greater sensitivity to subtle nuances in sound.
