Lanthimos is a Greek surname. The most prominent bearer is Yorgos Lanthimos (born 1978), a Greek film director, screenwriter, and producer who has emerged as a leading figure in contemporary world cinema. Lanthimos was born in Athens, Greece, and began making independent short films before achieving international recognition with Dogtooth (2009), a darkly comic drama about a troubled family.
