Landsstýrismaður

A landsstýrismaður is a member of the government of the Faroe Islands. The term translates directly to "lands steward" or "national steward." Landsstýrismenn, along with the Prime Minister (løgmaður), form the landsstýri, which is the executive branch of the Faroese government. Each landsstýrismaður is typically responsible for a specific ministry or portfolio, such as finance, foreign affairs, health, or education.

The landsstýri is appointed by the Prime Minister, who in turn is elected by the Løgting, the Faroese parliament. The composition of the landsstýri often reflects the political balance of power in the Løgting, with ministries typically distributed among the parties forming the governing coalition. Landsstýrismenn are accountable to the Løgting and can be subject to votes of no confidence. Their role is crucial in implementing legislation passed by the Løgting and in managing the day-to-day administration of the Faroe Islands.
