Landepunkthöhe

Landepunkthöhe is a hill and geographic landmark located in the central highlands of the Nordtal region. The summit rises to about 420 meters above sea level. The name Landepunkthöhe derives from historical use as a landing point for early lighter-than-air craft, with "Lande" indicating landing and "Punkthöhe" referring to the height of the landing point.

Geologically, the hill consists mainly of limestone and sandstone from the late Paleozoic era, featuring a rugged crest and wooded slopes. The vegetation is dominated by beech and oak at the lower to mid elevations, with scrub and grasses near the summit. The climate is temperate, with relatively high precipitation and a tendency for fog in the mornings during autumn.

Historical records mention Landepunkthöhe as a landmark in cartographic surveys from the 17th century. In the 20th century a small meteorological station and a low-frequency radio relay tower were built on the summit; the tower is fenced and not accessible to the public. A public access trail network loops around the hill, with several viewpoints along the ridge.

Today the site is primarily used for recreation, including hiking, birdwatching, and light astronomy. The nearby forests are managed for conservation, with limited commercial activity. The summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding valley and is a popular destination for day trips.
