Lajana

Lajana is a fictional town and municipality in the coastal region of the hypothetical nation of Noravia. Located at the mouth of the Lanza River, it faces the western sea and sits on a gently undulating coastal plain. The town covers about 25 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 9,500.

Etymology: The name Lajana is said to derive from an old local term for "river bend," though origins are uncertain.

History: Lajana originated as a fishing village in the 12th century. It prospered as a trading stop on inland-river routes and developed fortifications during the late medieval period. In the 19th century it expanded with steam-powered industry and later shifted to service sectors.

Geography and climate: It has a temperate maritime climate with mild winters and warm summers; the coastline features cliffs and sandy beaches to the south and farmland to the east.

Economy and transport: The local economy relies on fishing, agriculture, small-scale crafts, and tourism. Transportation includes regional buses and a small harbor; the nearest railway line and airport lie about 40–60 kilometers away.

Culture: The town hosts an annual Sea Festival in late summer; local cuisine centers on seafood and dairy; there is a municipal library and a cultural center.

Education and notable sites: Lajana has two primary schools and one secondary school. Notable landmarks include the Lajana Citadel, the Old Market, and the Lighthouse of Lanza. The town's historic church contains medieval frescoes.
