Lagtykkelserne
Lagtykkelserne, also known as the Lagting, is the legislative assembly of the Faroe Islands, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. The Lagting is composed of 32 members, known as lagtingsmenn, who are elected by universal suffrage for a four-year term. The members are elected from a single national constituency, with the Faroe Islands divided into 32 constituencies, each electing one representative. The Lagting is responsible for passing laws, approving the national budget, and overseeing the government's activities. It also has the power to impeach the Prime Minister and other government ministers. The Lagting meets in the Løgtingið building in Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. The current President of the Lagting is Jógvan á Lakjuni, who was elected in 2022. The Lagting is an important institution in the Faroe Islands, reflecting the local population's interests and ensuring democratic representation.
