Lactidetype

Lactidetype refers to a group of biodegradable polymers derived from lactic acid. These polymers are commonly known as polylactic acid, or PLA, although the term lactidetype can encompass other copolymers or modifications of PLA that retain its fundamental characteristics. PLA is synthesized through the ring-opening polymerization of lactide, a cyclic dimer of lactic acid. This process allows for the creation of long polymer chains with desirable properties.

The key characteristic of lactidetype polymers is their biodegradability. When exposed to certain environmental conditions, such as composting, they break down into lactic acid, which is then further metabolized by microorganisms into carbon dioxide and water.
