Laatikoston

Laatikosto is a piece of storage furniture designed to organize items in multiple drawers. It typically consists of a rectangular frame that supports a stack of shallow or deep drawers, guided by rails and equipped with pulls or handles. The drawers can be uniform in size for modular organization or vary in depth to accommodate different items. In Finnish vocabulary, laatikosto describes both freestanding chests of drawers and drawer arrays integrated into larger cabinets.

Construction and design vary widely. Common materials include solid wood, plywood, or particleboard with veneer or laminate finishes. Drawer slides may be wood, metal, or plastic, and many modern versions incorporate soft-close mechanisms. Variations of laatikosto serve diverse uses. In bedrooms, tall or wide chests provide clothing storage; in offices and workshops, drawers hold tools, hardware, stationery, or small components. Care and maintenance are straightforward. Regular dusting and occasional cleaning with a damp cloth are usually sufficient; avoid excessive moisture on wood.
