Laadimistsüklid, or charging cycles, refer to the process a rechargeable battery undergoes from being fully charged to being fully discharged, and then back to fully charged again. Each complete charge and discharge counts as one full cycle. Batteries are designed to withstand a certain number of these cycles before their capacity significantly degrades, meaning they can no longer hold as much charge as they did when new.

The lifespan of a battery is often expressed in terms of its cycle life, which is the total number of charge-discharge cycles it can endure before reaching a specified end-of-life capacity, typically 80% of its original capacity. Factors such as depth of discharge, temperature, and charging rate can influence the number of cycles a battery can achieve. For instance, discharging a battery completely and then fully recharging it represents a deeper discharge than partially discharging and recharging. Deeper discharges tend to put more stress on the battery's internal components, potentially reducing its overall cycle life.

Similarly, extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, can negatively impact battery performance and longevity. Charging or discharging a battery at very high or low temperatures can accelerate degradation. The rate at which a battery is charged and discharged also plays a role. Fast charging, while convenient, can generate more heat and stress on the battery compared to slower charging, potentially shortening its lifespan. Understanding charging cycles helps users manage their rechargeable devices more effectively, aiming to prolong battery health and maximize its useful life.
