LNMO

LNMO stands for Laryngoscope-Guided Nasal Intubation or Laryngoscope-Guided Nasotracheal Intubation. It is a medical procedure used to insert a breathing tube through the nose and into the trachea (windpipe). This technique is typically performed by trained medical professionals, such as anesthesiologists or emergency physicians, when oral intubation is not feasible or preferred.

The procedure involves using a laryngoscope to visualize the vocal cords and guide the insertion of a specially designed nasal endotracheal tube. The tube is carefully advanced through the nasal passage, pharynx, and larynx before being positioned in the trachea. This method can be advantageous in certain situations, including patients with significant facial trauma, limited mouth opening, or when the oral route is obstructed.

LNMO requires careful technique to minimize the risk of complications such as nasal bleeding, pharyngeal or laryngeal injury, or displacement of the tube. Post-intubation care and monitoring are essential to ensure proper placement and to manage any potential adverse effects. While effective, it is not the first-line approach for all intubations and is chosen based on individual patient factors and clinical circumstances.
