LGBTQ+ is an acronym that stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning. The "+" symbol is included to represent other sexual orientations and gender identities not explicitly listed, such as intersex, asexual, pansexual, and non-binary individuals. This umbrella term is used to describe a diverse community of people with varied sexual orientations and gender identities.

Sexual orientation refers to a person's emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attraction to other people. Gender identity, on the other hand, relates to a person's internal sense of being male, female, both, neither, or somewhere else along the gender spectrum. Not all individuals within the LGBTQ+ community identify with a specific sexual orientation or gender identity that aligns with societal norms.

The LGBTQ+ community is not monolithic; it encompasses a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and identities. Advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights has focused on achieving social acceptance, legal protections, and equality. This includes fighting against discrimination in areas such as employment, housing, healthcare, and marriage.
