LEDlähettimille refers to LED transmitters or emitters. These are semiconductor devices that produce light when an electric current passes through them. The term is commonly used in contexts related to lighting, telecommunications, and display technologies.

LEDs work on the principle of electroluminescence. When electrons and holes recombine within the semiconductor material, energy is released in the form of photons, which constitute light. The color of the emitted light depends on the semiconductor material used and its band gap energy. Different materials are employed to produce a wide spectrum of colors, including red, green, blue, and white. White LEDs are typically created by combining red, green, and blue light, or by using a blue LED with a phosphor coating that converts some of the blue light into other colors.

LED transmitters are highly efficient compared to traditional incandescent or fluorescent bulbs, consuming less power for the same amount of light output. They also have a long lifespan, are resistant to shock and vibration, and can be switched on and off rapidly, making them suitable for applications requiring frequent switching or pulsed operation. Their small size and low power consumption also enable integration into a variety of devices and systems.

In telecommunications, LED transmitters are used in optical fiber communication systems to convert electrical signals into light pulses, which are then transmitted through optical fibers. In lighting, they are ubiquitous in home and industrial lighting, automotive headlights, and various indicator lights. Display technologies, such as LED screens and signs, also rely on arrays of LED emitters to form images and text.
