LEDdriftere

LEDdriftere are electronic devices that supply and regulate current to light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in a wide range of lighting applications. They protect LEDs from overcurrent, ensure stable brightness, and convert input power to the appropriate electrical conditions required by the LED array.

The term LEDdriftere is used in some Nordic languages as a translation of LED drivers. In practice it encompasses standalone power units and luminaire-integrated solutions that regulate current for single LEDs, strings, or arrays.

Functionally, LEDdriftere provide constant current (and sometimes constant voltage) to LED loads, handle voltage conversion from AC or DC inputs, and include protections against short circuits, overvoltage, and excessive temperatures. Many models support dimming or remote control.

Types commonly include constant-current drivers for series LED strings, constant-voltage drivers for modules with internal regulation, and dimmable variants that use analog control or pulse-width modulation (PWM). Isolated drivers provide electrical separation between input and LED circuits.

Construction and features vary by application. Typical devices include line- or switch-mode power conversion, input filtering, overcurrent protection, thermal sensing, and safety isolation. Efficiency and power factor are important considerations, particularly for high-output or long-life installations.

Applications range from general lighting fixtures and LED strips to signage, architectural lighting, automotive lighting, and horticulture. Increasing integration with smart controls and dimming networks reflects a trend toward configurable, energy-efficient illumination.
