Käyttöakseleita refers to drive axles, which are a crucial component in many vehicles. A drive axle is a shaft that transmits power from the differential to the wheels, causing them to rotate and propel the vehicle. In rear-wheel-drive vehicles, the drive axles connect the rear differential to the rear wheels. In front-wheel-drive vehicles, they connect the transaxle (a combined transmission and differential unit) to the front wheels. All-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive systems typically have multiple drive axles, powering both front and rear wheels.

The design of a drive axle can vary. In some simpler systems, a solid axle might be used, where both wheels on an axle are rigidly connected to a single housing. However, most modern vehicles utilize independent suspension systems, employing half-shafts or CV (constant velocity) axles. These CV axles are designed with universal joints that allow for a wider range of motion, accommodating the up and down movement of the wheels without restricting steering or power delivery. This is particularly important for front wheels that also need to steer. The robust construction of drive axles is essential to withstand the significant torque and stress they endure during acceleration, braking, and general driving conditions.
