Kárazonosítás

Kárazonosítás is a Hungarian term that translates to "ship identification" or "vessel identification". It refers to the process of uniquely identifying watercraft, typically for regulatory, safety, and tracking purposes. This identification is crucial for maritime authorities, port operators, and search and rescue services to manage and monitor maritime traffic effectively.

The primary method of kárazonosítás is through the International Maritime Mobile (IMM) system, which assigns a unique Maritime Mobile Service Identity (MMSI) number to each ship. This MMSI number is a nine-digit code that serves as a digital identifier for vessels equipped with specific communication equipment, such as DSC (Digital Selective Calling) and AIS (Automatic Identification System). The MMSI is used in distress calls, for automated communication between ships, and for tracking vessel movements.

Beyond MMSI, other forms of kárazonosítás exist. Ships are typically registered with a national maritime authority, which assigns them a unique registration number and often a call sign. In some contexts, the hull number, a unique identifier assigned during the ship's construction, can also be considered a form of identification. These various identifiers contribute to a comprehensive system for distinguishing and managing individual vessels within the global maritime domain.
