Kylmäkontit, often referred to as refrigerated containers or reefer containers, are specialized shipping containers designed to transport perishable goods. They are equipped with a built-in refrigeration unit that maintains a precise temperature, crucial for preserving the quality and safety of items like food, pharmaceuticals, and other temperature-sensitive materials during transit.

These containers operate by using a refrigeration system powered by either the ship, truck, or train they are attached to, or by their own onboard generator. The temperature inside can be set and monitored, typically ranging from -35°C to +30°C, allowing for a wide variety of cargo to be transported. The insulation of the container is a key feature, minimizing heat transfer from the outside environment and ensuring consistent temperature control.
