Kvadrato

Kvadrato is a term used in Esperanto to denote the geometric shape known in English as a square. In geometry, a kvadrato is a regular quadrilateral with four equal sides and four right angles. Its area is the square of its side length, and its perimeter is four times the side length. The diagonals of a kvadrato are equal in length, bisect each other, and meet at right angles, dividing the shape into congruent right triangles.

In mathematical and educational contexts, kvadrato serves as a basic example for teaching symmetry, tessellations, and coordinate geometry. It also appears in discussions of tiling, where squares can cover a plane without gaps or overlaps, often in combination with other shapes.

Beyond geometry, kvadrato is the standard Esperanto word for the square shape. The plural form is kvadratoj, and adjectives describing a kvadrato use the -a ending, such as kvadrata to denote “square-shaped.” The term is commonly used in textbooks, classrooms, and everyday language when referring to the shape or its properties.
