Kuulanheitto

Kuulanheitto is an athletic track and field event where competitors throw a heavy spherical ball, the shot, as far as possible. The shot is typically made of metal, such as iron or brass, and its weight varies depending on the age and gender of the competitor. For senior men, the standard shot weighs 7.26 kilograms (16 pounds), while for senior women, it weighs 4 kilograms (8.8 pounds).

The event takes place within a circular throwing circle, 2.135 meters (7 feet) in diameter. Athletes must remain within this circle during their throw. The technique involves a short run-up, followed by a powerful push or "put" of the shot from the shoulder, with the arm extended. Competitors are allowed three attempts, and the longest valid throw determines the winner. Fouls can occur if the athlete steps outside the circle before the shot lands or fails to throw the shot from their shoulder.

Kuulanheitto is part of both indoor and outdoor athletics competitions and has been an Olympic sport since the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 for men and 1948 for women. It requires a combination of strength, speed, technique, and balance. Athletes often train extensively to develop the explosive power and precise movements needed for successful shot putting.
