Kurzvita

Kurzvita is a concise biographical note or resume used in German-speaking contexts to introduce a person in professional, academic, or media settings. It differs from a full Lebenslauf (CV) in length and scope, focusing on essentials that establish the person’s identity, current role, and areas of expertise. In English-language contexts the term is often translated as short biography or short bio.

A typical Kurzvita includes: full name; current position and institutional or organizational affiliation; a brief statement of professional focus or research interests; key qualifications or education (highest degree and institutions); notable achievements, awards, publications, or projects; and, optionally, languages and professional memberships. It is usually written in the third person and kept to a compact length, commonly around 50–200 words depending on the venue.

Usage: Kurzvitas are widely used in conference programs, journal articles, press releases, websites, book jackets, and grant or funding applications. They may be tailored for different audiences, emphasizing different aspects of expertise. Because accuracy and current information are important, writers update them regularly and avoid promotional language or confidential details. In many cases a Kurzvita is paired with a full CV when more detail is required.
