Kunreishikiä

Kunreishiki is a traditional Japanese tea ceremony practice that emphasizes spiritual discipline and aesthetic appreciation. The term itself can be translated as "practice of tea." It is not a singular event but rather a comprehensive system of etiquette, philosophy, and preparation involved in serving and drinking matcha, powdered green tea. Kunreishiki aims to cultivate mindfulness, tranquility, and a deep connection between the host and guests.

The practice involves specific movements, gestures, and the use of carefully selected utensils, each with its own significance. Every element, from the way the tea is whisked to the arrangement of flowers in the tokonoma (alcove), is considered to contribute to the overall harmony and spiritual experience. The four principles guiding Kunreishiki are wa (harmony), kei (respect), sei (purity), and jaku (tranquility). These principles are meant to be embodied by both the practitioner and those participating in the ceremony, fostering an atmosphere of peace and mutual understanding.
