Kunnallisäänestyslistat

Kunnallisäänestyslistat, often translated as municipal electoral rolls or lists, are official registers maintained by municipalities in Finland. These lists contain the names and personal information of all individuals who are eligible to vote in municipal elections. The purpose of these lists is to ensure that only authorized citizens can cast a ballot and to prevent multiple voting.

Eligibility for inclusion on a kunnallisäänestyslista is determined by Finnish law. Generally, an individual must be a Finnish citizen, have reached the age of 18 by the election day, and be registered as a resident in the municipality where they wish to vote. For EU/EEA citizens and other foreign nationals who have resided in Finland for a sufficient period, eligibility may also be granted under specific conditions.

The lists are compiled and updated by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency, and municipalities are responsible for their accuracy. Information on the lists typically includes the voter's full name, personal identity code, address, and voting district. Voters receive an information letter (äänestystiedote) before the election, which confirms their inclusion on the list and provides details about their designated polling station and voting times.

Citizens have the right to inspect the kunnallisäänestyslistat and to request corrections if their information is incorrect or if they believe they should be included or excluded. This process ensures the integrity of the electoral system at the local level. The lists are crucial for the organization and execution of fair and transparent municipal elections in Finland.
