Kummimembraane

Kummimembraane are rubber-based membranes used as flexible barriers, seals, and actuators in engineering and technology. They are thin sheets or films of elastomer that can deform under pressure or vacuum and return to their original shape when the force is released. In many contexts the term refers to diaphragms or thin rubber layers that separate fluids or gases while allowing controlled movement or pressure transmission.

Common materials for kummimembraane include natural rubber, nitrile rubber (NBR), silicone, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM), and fluorinated elastomers. They are typically produced by calendaring, extrusion, or molding, and cured through vulcanization or other crosslinking processes to achieve the desired elasticity and durability. The selection of material depends on factors such as chemical exposure, temperature range, and mechanical load.

Key properties of kummimembraane are elasticity, tear resistance, and varying hardness, which determine how much they can deflect without failure. Chemical resistance and temperature tolerance are material-dependent; some elastomers resist oils and solvents, while others perform better at high or low temperatures. Thickness and surface finish influence sealing effectiveness and response time in actuation applications.

Applications span seals and gaskets, diaphragms in pumps and valves, pressure sensors, medical devices, and audio or vibration-damping components. When selecting a kummimembraan, considerations include fluid compatibility, aging due to ozone or UV exposure, mechanical cycling, and ease of fabrication.
