Kumeyaay
The Kumeyaay are a Native American people whose traditional territory covers parts of what is now southern California in the United States and the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. They occupied coastal and inland regions around the San Diego area, the southern California coast, and much of Baja California. The term Kumeyaay encompasses two closely related linguistic-cultural groups, the Ipai in the north and the Tipai in the south. They speak the Kumeyaay language, a member of the Yuman language family, and many communities now work to revive and maintain it.
