Kulutusveroiksi

Kulutusveroiksi is a Finnish term used to describe tax policy framed around taxation on consumption rather than on income or wealth. The idea behind referring to taxes as kulutusveroiksi is to collect revenue primarily from goods and services that households purchase and use.

In practice, consumption taxes include value-added tax (VAT) and various excise taxes. VAT is levied on most goods and services at each stage of production and distribution, while excise taxes target specific items such as alcohol, tobacco, fuel, and electricity. Environmental taxes and other consumption-based charges can also be part of a kulutusveroiksi approach. The common goal of these taxes is to raise revenue while simplifying administration and, in some designs, to influence consumption choices.
