Kultúrafüggség

Kultúrafüggőség refers to a concept in sociology and anthropology describing the phenomenon where individuals or groups become excessively reliant on a particular culture for their identity, values, and social norms. This dependence can arise from various factors, including prolonged exposure to foreign media, extensive travel, or significant cultural assimilation.

Individuals experiencing kultúrafüggőség may struggle to reconcile their original cultural upbringing with the adopted culture, leading to feelings of alienation or a lack of belonging in either. They might adopt the customs, language, and perspectives of the dominant culture to such an extent that their original cultural identity weakens. This can manifest as a preference for foreign products, entertainment, and social interactions, sometimes to the exclusion of their native cultural elements.

The concept is distinct from cultural appreciation or biculturalism, which involve understanding and integrating multiple cultural influences without necessarily losing one's core identity. Kultúrafüggőség suggests a more profound and sometimes detrimental attachment, where the individual's sense of self becomes deeply intertwined with and dependent upon an external cultural framework. This can be a source of personal conflict and social disconnection.
