Kuivakytkin

Kuivakytkin, also known as a dry contact or potential-free contact, is an electrical switch that operates without any internal power source or signal. It functions by simply opening or closing a circuit. When the switch is closed, it creates a path for current to flow, allowing two separate points in an electrical circuit to be connected. When it is open, it interrupts the circuit, preventing current flow. The key characteristic of a kuivakytkin is that it does not provide or receive any electrical signal itself; it is purely a mechanical or solid-state device for controlling the flow of electricity in another circuit. This makes it ideal for interfacing with systems that operate at different voltage levels or require isolation. Common applications include alarm systems, where a sensor's activation closes a kuivakytkin to trigger an alarm panel, or in building automation, where it can signal the status of a device like a door or window.
